Implementing EMRs Broken or non-performing processes can’t be fixed with an overlay of technology. In fact, that approach only serves to magnify deficiencies, not correct them.This article examines how focusing on process redesign prior to implementing the EMR, enables hospitals to maximize the benefits technology has to offer. Two large health systems—Sutter Health in Northern California and Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, New Mexico—are taking this approach, using Lean Six Sigma design tools.
