DMAIC Master Black Belt

Earning your Master Black Belt (MBB) will place you among an elite group of highly valued and sought-after individuals. A Master Black Belt makes you a company-wide Lean, Six Sigma, or Quality expert. As a Master Black Belt, you will be qualified to:

  • Instruct other Green and Black Belts on the methodologies, tools and applications in all functions or levels of your company.
  • Provide leadership integrating the Lean and Six Sigma approach into the business strategy of the company.
  • Contribute to creating and carrying out the organization's strategic business and operational plans

In order to become a Master Black Belt, several important requirements must be fulfilled:

  • At each phase of DMAIC, you must complete reading assignments with specific deliverables.
  • Based on actual completed projects in your company, you will be expected to develop a complete teaching case study on DMAIC, as well as a Lean case study.
  • You must be able to demonstrate use of statistical software for one tool for each phase of DMAIC.
  • Following training, two additional projects must be completed. To become a certified MBB, you must have personally led project teams.
  • Co-teaching to demonstrate teaching ability, and co-consulting to demonstrate mentoring effectiveness.
  • Teaching a Green Belt and Black Belt workshop.
  • You must pass Juran's written exam, as well as project review and case studies.

MBB certification also requires proof of Black Belt certification—this includes documentation of the successful completion of a project. If your certification does not come from Juran, you may still apply for MBB certification, provided that you have:

  • Completed a project as a Black Belt.
  • Passed Juran's Black Belt exam.
  • Fulfilled Black Belt project report requirements.
  • Passed a project review.
  • Obtained signoff for a project from your organization's Champion.

Juran’s Master Black Belt Program includes mentoring, coaching and observation that guarantees you have the most thorough training and preparation. This includes 10 days of support throughout the certification process, with a 70/30 virtual-to-onsite ratio. All project work, reading assignments, case study development and teaching assignments are reviewed together with your Juran certifier, on a mutually agreed-upon and appropriate schedule.
