April 1, 2014 – Joseph A. DeFeo Inducted into CCSU Business School Hall of Honor

Joseph DeFeoNEW BRITAIN, CT: The Central Connecticut State University School of Business has celebrated the accomplishments of three business leaders: Curtis Wiggins, vice president of First Investors; Joseph DeFeo, chairman and CEO of Juran Global; and Robert Ruffolo, founder and CEO of Impact Branding and Design, along with corporate partner BlumShapiro, during its fifth annual Hall of Honor Gala held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

March 22, 2014 – Dr. Brad Wood, EVP of Juran Benchmarking, to speak at ILTA 2014 in Houston

Dr. Brad Wood, EVP of Juran Benchmarking, will be presenting on the topic of Trends in Terminal Maintenance Efficiency and Effectiveness at ILTA 2014 on Monday, June 2nd, in Houston, Texas.

The presentation will provide an objective examination of the trends in maintenance efficiency and effectiveness over a 10 year period from 2002 to 2012. The analyses are based upon global benchmarking data provided by marine terminals from Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East and the Far East. All data were collected by Juran, validated, normalized and analyzed in terms of maintenance performance.

In order to enable like for like comparisons between different Marine Terminals, data was normalized using a highly effective methodology developed by Juran that determines the relative operational complexity of all terminals. Efficiency was assessed in terms of relative costs for manning and materials as well as for manpower time spent on maintenance activities. Manpower costs and time were analyzed in relation to resourcing strategies (in-sourcing versus outsourcing) and also in relation to the functional area of the terminal (storage, loading/unloading, utilities etc.) Maintenance effectiveness was also considered in terms of terminal availability, reliability, downtime and maintenance backlog. The analysis will also include a case study focusing on the changes in maintenance efficiency of a marine terminal from northern Europe over the same 10 year period and consider these in relation to performance improvement activities of the terminal.
